The Smecca family's culinary story is woven into the fabric of Galveston itself. After arriving from Sicily in 1973, Tony "Nonno" Smecca and his wife Nilde opened Mario's Seawall Italian Restaurant. Known for its authentic pastas and award-winning pizza, Mario's quickly became a local icon.
Today, the legacy lives on through sons Johnny and Joey, partner Danny Hart, and their growing hospitality group, now home to multiple beloved restaurants, a ghost kitchen, and a thriving catering operation.

Our dough begins long before the flour and water—back in Sicily, where the tradition of the pizza uomo (pizza man) was born.
